To talk to online technical personnel concerning this service, please feel free to call 1-800-297-3208 The worlds' first Online Calibration and Calibration Management system! Online Calibration was developed to enable companies to implement an in-house calibration program that would be executed consistently and at consistent intervals according to their Quality Program. Each testing procedure has been interpreted in a stepped program that guides the user through the process of calibrating the instrument. All tolerances, averaging and other mathematical information is preset to inform you that the instrument is in or out of calibration. The advantages -
Our online calibration services are set up to enable companies or individuals to -
Our first response to the online calibration system has been very positive. We have found though, that it has been often initially misunderstood. The first apprehensions which were addressed to us in newsgroups or customer marketing feedback are addressed in a Q&A or FAQ - My testers are not where my online computer is - Portable Rebound testesr can be brought, with the test block, to the on-line computer. How can one calibrate online when no adjustments to the instruments can be made remotely?First, the definition of calibration. The ASTM E-18-98, for example, defines calibration as follows: "determination of the values of the significant parameters by comparisons with values indicated by a reference instrument or by a set of reference standards". By this definition, the online calibration concept is viable and the terminology correct. If something is wrong with the instrument, it cannot be fixed online - but it can be calibrated.
With company personnel filling in the data, how can you ensure that the information is not altered? We can't. This concern was one we never anticipated. In most companies, the personnel who maintain instrumentation would have many opportunities to render calibrations invalid whether online or off. For what reason would anyone enter false data? The only assurance against this sort of possible abuse is that the historical information might indicate a trend toward a non-calibrated state of the instrument. If someone were to enter false information, it would likely stand out as inconsistent with that trend. |
There are no passwords - is the information secure? Somewhat - There are no charges for this service so there is no monetary threat that unscrupulous third parties could pick up payment information. As far as the data collected pertaining to calibration, you would need the company name and the serial number of the test block to access the information. This was not implemented as a security measure but tends to work well. Also, the readings are not on the parts that companies using this service manufacture. Rather, they are on their standard test blocks and therefore should not be subject to policies pertaining to corporate secrets. Also, by eliminating or reducing the need for a third party to come into your QC Laboratory (and they will be going to your competitors laboratory next) we feel we have improved security overall. What are the guarantees of the service? There are no warrantees expressed or implied. We are not charging anything for the service - it is free, self registering, self executing, self administered. Can we send our instrument to Corvib instead? By all means. We will calibrate the instrument and provide a hard copy of the results. As well, you can still go to the online calibration page to see historical information pertaining to every test Corvib perform has performed on any particular serialized component. How can we tell when the next due date for calibration? For self test, the frequency will be the same as your notification interval and that will show on the calibration certificate. If we calibrate at Corvib, the frequency of the test regimentation is not valid since we can not determine the number of tests the instrument will be used in any time interval. What instruments can be calibrated with this service? We are starting with the Equotip Hardness Tester and the Rockwell C and B according to E-18 94 static hardness testers. User comments and the number of people use the service will indicate how much will go into the rate of expansion. You are not charging - why bother? Businesses can now off-set the costs of buying an Equotip by allocating the costs savings realized by using the online calibration system! Also, Goodwill - Corvib has been in business for 25 years and on the internet since 1994. Experience tells us that companies reward acts of good service with business considerations. Can we use this program offline as part of our company calibration regimentation? The programming and database setup could be installed and customized to suit a local area network. |
